The Fortieth Clos.

There were 39 recognized Clos throughout Champagne—do Clos d'Ambonnay and Clos de Mesnil ring a bell?—but since 2023, there’s one more: Clos de Beau Site, the 0.3 hectares small “beautiful place” enclosed by walls that Damien Petit has always lived by, alongside his family home.

At Beau Site they make Pinot Noir, because it’s Verzy; only millésime, because they respect the vintage; and just a few bottles, because there’s very little land.

As a great connoisseur of Champagne once said: “Damien is charming, but he’s a simple guy. He doesn’t have social media, a website, or even WhatsApp. But what do you need all that stuff for when you have a clos?!”
