Beginnings
We bought a very important barrel of wine. A wine for women, a wine for charity, a wine of tiny production that represented the hopes of a region in an exceedingly difficult growing season.
Ludovine recognised its potential, bringing it through infancy.
Cécile conducted the élevage, realising the full potential to create a wine of transcendence, completing the miracle.
And Élevage Wines was born.
“Élevage” is not just maturation. It is the quiet yet critical journey towards completeness, an important path upwards for both wine and people.
Our obsession is to seek quality in all things.
The best of anything will always be interesting to us.
Wine must be drinkable more than it is scoreable.
We respect the lives and work of those who have created an identity over years and decades, especially those always excited by the challenge to evolve.
Our friends in the vineyard care about their work and the land they farm. We expect them to always look to the future and act accordingly.
We prefer organic and biodynamic farming, not because we are idealogues or dogmatic, but because we have seen that these approaches, more often than not, deliver wines of superior quality.
Yet we are pragmatic and understand that farmers face difficult choices, and beyond sustainability in the vineyard must also consider the sustainability of their business. At times it is essential to compromise and save a year of production, than to allow an idea to destroy a lifetime’s work.
Our vignerons, whether established names or just starting out, produce wines of distinction and are always on a path to improving quality through better practices in the vineyard, the winery and in the way they come to market.
They are also top drinkers, fully aware of the world of wine around them, on point with what is happening inside and outside their region or origin.
Together we are always elevating our knowledge.
